University of Hyderabad gears up for International Conference on Translation Studies

The Centre for Study of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad is organizing a three-day International Conference on “Socio Cultural Approaches to Translation: Indian and European Perspectives” 10-12 February, 2010 jointly with the Université de Bretagne-Sud, France supported by National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL, Mysore. Translation plays a key role in bringing people together and thus promoting social, cultural, economic and trade relations between nations across the globe. Globalization and localization process have created tremendous scope for translation activities and have resulted in drawing the attention of Government of India to fund and promote translation activities and establish the National Translation Mission, a government body responsible for promotion of translation in Indian as well as foreign languages.

For more than 12 months, the Indian as well as European counterparts have been working for the success of this conference and it has already attracted the attention of different International and National Institutions, well-known scholars and reputed organizations that are actively involved in manual as well as machine translation.

The mentioned conference has received special attention from leading translation associations, academic institutions and web portals across the globe. It is worth mentioning that the Conference will be attended by eminent scholars from USA, UK, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Portuguese, Spain, France etc. and also from India to make their presentations on various social and cultural aspects of translation.

The presence of Indian Translators Association (ITAINDIA), the Advertising and Publicity Partner in the event has further added value to it. ITAINDIA has been involved in creating awareness about this conference at national and international levels through its network and contacts consisting more than 100000 translators across the globe.

The Coordinators of the Conference are Prof. J. Prabhakara Rao from University of Hyderabad Prof. Jean Peeters, Universite de Bretagne-Sud, France.
